The course covers essential topics related to the management and operations of assisted living residences, including legal requirements, resident care, facilities management, staff training, and financial management. The program is approved by the Rhode Island Department of Health and prepares participants for licensure and ongoing professional development in the field of assisted living.

Participants will gain in-depth knowledge of state and local regulations, including the administrator’s responsibilities and how to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. The course emphasizes person-centered care, the importance of managing dementia and Alzheimer’s patients, and the best practices for delivering quality care in a safe, supportive, and well-managed environment.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will be prepared to effectively manage an assisted living residence, ensuring quality care and compliance with state and federal regulations while optimizing operational efficiency.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion, attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss the administrative processes in assisted living, including full disclosure, residency contracts, move-in procedures, individualized service plans, risk management, regulatory compliance, and handling surveys, grievances, and conflicts.
  • Recognize dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, including their causes, stages, and symptoms, and learn strategies for managing challenging behaviors, creating dementia-capable environments, staffing programs, and supporting families in care.
  • Summarize the role of nurses in assisted living, including their functions, responsibilities, and compliance with the RI Nurse Practice Act, as well as the administrator's role in overseeing nursing and medication management, staff training, and regulatory requirements.
